Bishi - ‘Albion Voice’
This is quite possibly the greatest song EVER written about being brown in the UK. It touches on everything I’ve ever thought about in relation to identity & nationhood plus it manages to be revolutionary & political as well as twee in a folk kind of way. Bishi is one of the most important artists we have (in my opinion) but she’s also one of the most bonkers!
I wont tell a lie, but this track has had me blubbing like a baby on more than one occasion.

Yo Yo Honey Singh - ‘Satan’
Yep, you read that right…Honey Singh has just made a track & video called SATAN! Honey Singh is a love/hate artist, in the sense that I’ve never met a person who’s indifferent to him. It’s all or nothing with his haters as well as his fans. For me he’s always been an unpredictable artist who beneath all the macho posturing and slightly cheesy Punjabi-isms is a true radical at heart. His fans are the millions of youth growing up in the villages & hinterlands of India as well as the new-money middle classes created by India’s 20 year long boom.
Mark my words…Honey Singh is destined for a great, successful as well as an unpredictable & controversial journey over the next few years.

STATEMENT FROM THE SHANKAR FAMILY ON THE DEATH OF PANDIT RAVI SHANKAR JI
It is with heavy hearts we write to inform you that Pandit Ravi Shankar, husband, father, and musical soul, passed away today, December 11th, 2012.
As you all know, his health has been fragile for the past several years and on Thursday he underwent a surgery that could have potentially given him a new lease of life. Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of the surgeons and doctors taking care of him, his body was not able to withstand the strain of the surgery. We were at his side when he passed away.
We know that you all feel our loss with us, and we thank you for all of your prayers and good wishes through this difficult time. Although it is a time for sorrow and sadness, it is also a time for all of us to give thanks and to be grateful that we were able to have him as a part of our lives. His spirit and his legacy will live on forever in our hearts and in his music.
